Yandex is a search engine from Russia, holding over 60% of the market share in Russia. Following Google and Bing, I will discuss how to Submit Website to Yandex Search engine in this article. Many people in other Russian-speaking and Eastern European countries also prefer using this search engine. This market is significant, so I recommend adding your website to Yandex Search Engine as well.
1. Login to admin of Yandex Webmaster Tools
If you have an account, sign in directly, or create a new account. Yandex’s webmaster dashboard may not be as clear and understandable as Bing’s, but it is also easy to use.
2. Add website to Yandex
Similar to Google and Bing, Yandex will prompt you to add a new site when you log into your account for the first time as a new user.
Alternatively, you can add a website by clicking the + button at the top. Enter your domain name or URL on the next page:
Click the yellow button ‘Add’ and proceed to the next step, which involves verifying your website.
3. Verify Your site on Yandex
Yandex offers 3 methods for you to verify your website like Bing too:
- HTML File – Click the blue link ‘yandex_8027eb03ea3024a4.html‘ to download the file, or follow Yandex’s steps to create an HTML file. Upload this file to the root directory of your website, similar to the process in Bing.
- Meta Tag – Add an HTML meta tag to the
<head>
section of your website. Refer to Bing’s instructions for details. - DNS Record – Yandex also offers the option to add a TXT record to your domain’s DNS settings. This method is compatible with any type of website and search engine. I will explain this method in detail in the following step
Log in to your domain admin dashboard, such as NameSilo, known for its affordability and WHOIS privacy options. Navigate to the NameSilo domain management dashboard, select your domain name, and find the DNS records section under Domain Console -> DNS Records. Similarly, locate the DNS records management section for other domain registrars.
Add a new TXT record following the steps shown in the image below:
No matter which method you choose to verify your website, return to Yandex and click the yellow ‘Check’ button to verify the site. Verification typically takes only a few minutes.
4. Submit Website Sitemap to Yandex
Once your site is verified on Yandex, you can submit your sitemap. In the Tools section of Yandex, you’ll find the Sitemap validator。
The Sitemap validator is a tool that allows you to submit your website’s sitemap to Yandex, similar to submitting sitemaps to Google and Bing. First, obtain your website’s sitemap. For example, in WordPress, the default sitemap URL is typically https://www.example.com/wp-sitemap.xml. Alternatively, you can use plugins like Rank Math to generate your website’s sitemap.
Next, paste your sitemap URL into the box below and click ‘Check’. Yandex will then automatically start indexing your web pages.
Conclusion
In addition to Yandex, we also have tutorials on how to add a website to Google and Bing. Generally speaking, the processes are quite similar; they differ mainly in the specific locations within each search engine’s interface.
While Yandex may not be as globally recognized, it boasts a large user base, particularly among businesses operating in Russian-speaking regions. For such businesses, it’s essential to add your website to Yandex.
